Hello there!
About me
Ellie Lee-Duncan wants to live in a world filled with art that is not only beautiful, but challenging. With this combined passion of art, politics, and ideas, Ellie is an artist, writer, curator, and tutor that loves to nurture the creative spark in others.
They are a ‘ forever student,’ and love building on their academic foundations in art history, visual art, philosophy, and English literature.
Previously, Ellie co-directed the art gallery [Tacit] for over a year, during which they curated group shows for 97 artists.
Ellie also loves the intricacies of gender and queer theory, with their thesis on transgender self-representation in contemporary moving image art.
Ellie has been tutoring art lessons at Waikato Society of Art for 7 years, with a Master’s degree in Art History from the University of Auckland, and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Victoria University of Wellington.
As an art writer Ellie has written for Pantograph Punch, The Auckland Art Gallery’s journal Artmatter, the Adam Art Gallery, Jonathan Smart Gallery, and RAMP Gallery.
They have curated exhibitions for their previous artist-run gallery [Tacit], the Nancy Caiger Gallery, Next Level Gallery, and Skinroom / Never Project Space.
Their own art is detailed and whimsical, and has been featured in RM Gallery, Artspost Gallery, Skinroom, Mavis and Co, [Tacit], and the NZ Painting and Printmaking Awards.
Ellie is always passionate about caffeine and new challenges!
